At The Hidden Grove, we believe knowing where your cannabis comes from—and who grows it—makes all the difference. Our Know Your Grower series highlights the local cultivators behind the flower on our shelves: the people who pour their time, talent, and love into every plant.
This month, we’re excited to introduce you to Clover Hill Cannabis, a woman-owned micro-cultivation business based in South Strafford, Vermont.
Rooted in Passion, Grown with Purpose

Tucked into the hills of South Strafford, Vermont, Clover Hill Cannabis stands as a shining example of what Vermont’s legal cannabis marketplace was meant to foster—small-batch growers with big heart, deep horticultural knowledge, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
Owned and operated by Michelle Shane, Clover Hill is a one-woman show from seed to sale. Michelle—an experienced organic farmer and proud mom of twins—handles everything: cultivation, harvesting, trimming, packaging, and delivery. As Stephanie of White River Growpro puts it, Michelle is a “bad ass mom” and “a passionate organic gardener… bringing some fire small-batch cannabis to the Vermont market”.
From Farm Fields to Flower Rooms
Before cannabis became her crop of choice, Michelle spent over a decade working on organic farms. “I couldn’t see a future doing work that didn’t involve getting my hands dirty,” she explains. “But I needed something to call my own.” When Vermont opened its doors to legal cultivation, Michelle seized the opportunity to make cannabis her career—and has never looked back.
Though Clover Hill was originally co-founded with her husband, Mike—a Navy veteran and criminal defense attorney—he has since stepped back from day-to-day operations due to the demands of his legal work. Michelle now runs Clover Hill solo, continuing to honor the organic ethos they built together.

Built with Local Support
White River Growpro, now home to The Hidden Grove, played a key role in Clover Hill’s early development. Their team helped Michelle and Mike design and implement their Tier 1 indoor cultivation facility, a canopy under 1,000 square feet that focuses on quality over quantity.
This tight-knit relationship between growers and gear suppliers reflects what Vermont’s cannabis industry does best: community-based collaboration that raises the bar for product quality.
Organic, Inside and Out
At Clover Hill, every plant is a project of love—and integrity. Michelle uses homemade living soil, organic inputs, and IPM (integrated pest management) to keep her plants thriving without chemicals or pesticides. She thrives on the nuances of each strain: “Each one is so different with their growth habits and the flower they produce,” she says. “I love the challenge of trying to get the best out of them each round”.

A New Face in the Field: Meet Ripley
Delivering hand-crafted cannabis is serious business—but it’s a little more joyful these days thanks to Ripley, Clover Hill’s adorable new puppy and part-time delivery assistant. Often riding shotgun with Michelle on local deliveries, Ripley adds a dose of playfulness to the workday and is quickly becoming a fan favorite among regular dispensary partners. Don’t be surprised if you get greeted with a wagging tail the next time Michelle stops by!
